Ignore the Drowning and Worship the Flawed

Waves are crashing in my mind

The storm is coming from behind

And yet some people who face the problems with their own two eyes

Make light of the hurricane

But you’re just wasting your time

Because soon our time, it will run out

Not just houses, but people, will drown

Our digital clocks will stop working

Because of electrical outages you say you didn’t see coming

From heat that refuses to stop the beat

From water that refuses to be discreet

From the air that’s pungent as you walk through the city

You’re only thinking

About how you can turn this into a way to get pity.

Ignore the drowning and worship the flawed,

That’s all you said as you took in what you saw.

As you watched thousands of your followers line up to be slaughtered.

But still they are not lambs,

For they created the slaughter.

They built the slaughter with the wood you provided

They nailed in the roof with the nails you made.

You are the person who started this,

Don’t you see?

Now turn your head and listen to me.

Ignore the drowning and worship the flawed,

That’s all you said as you took in what you saw.

The world is crumbling at your feet,

But you refuse to see it from your legislator’s seat.

Sometimes you look down and see

All that is missing,

The puzzle will never be complete

If you keep acting like you’re the king of the world.

But one thing you won’t realize until it’s too late,

Something that will make you scream, “Wait, wait!”

Oh, what you don’t realize,

Oh, it will be late

When you remember that there is always a floodgate.
